Al Jardine once said, “The Kingston Trio were The Beach Boys of the folk era,” and this is true! From 1957 to 1963, The Kingston Trio were the most popular folk group in the world. To this date they still hold Billboard’s record for the most number 1 albums and most top 10 albums. They are also the recipients of two Grammys, as well as the Grammys Lifetime Achievement Award.
Their music has gone on to influence recording artists as musically and generationally diverse as Bob Dylan, Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Eagles, comedian and banjo player Steve Martin and Mumford & Sons.
In celebration of their nationwide 65th anniversary tour, the iconic folk group performs their best-loved songs: ‘ Tom Dooley’, ‘MTA’ (He’ll Never Return), ‘Where Have All The Flowers Gone’, ‘Scotch & Soda’, ‘Greenback Dollar’, ‘A Worried Man’ and many more.
All three current members, Mike Marvin, Tim Gorelangton and Don Marovich, have intrinsic links to the original group: Mike is the “adopted son” of founding member Nick Reynolds, who was also his musical mentor; Tim, a friend of John Stewart since he was in his early twenties, is one of the few musicians outside The Kingston Trio who has recorded with Nick Reynolds; and Don Marovich, a highly regarded musician who has also toured with the original Kingston Trio.
