Village Papery: Sojourns with Jill Thayer
August 6 - September 30
Village Papery presents the work of Central Coast artist Jill Thayer. View her artwork in the store from August 6-September 30. Join the artist reception on Friday, August 6, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Jill’s pursuits as a curator, educator, art historian, podcaster and writer inform her approach to painting and photography inspired by the panoramic vistas of the region. Jill’s artistic vision captures the essence of the environment through a high-energy palette of pigment and light. Her quiet photographic compositions and expressionistic abstracts offer pause for reflection in a hectic world that call to mind the road less traveled.
Jill received her doctorate from Claremont Graduate University in Cultural Studies/Museum Studies with a cross-discipline in Global Strategy and Trade at St. Peter’s College, University of Oxford, UK. Prior to relocating to the Central Coast in 2014, she owned a gallery for 15 years and a design/marketing firm for 25 years in Bakersfield working with regional and global clientele. She is writing a book entitled, Sojourns: Trails of Inspiration that will be published by a division of Simon and Schuster next year.
Jill is a curator for Estrella Warbirds Museum; Associate Professor of Art History for Santa Monica College, Alan Hancock College, and other universities nationally; and producer of “The Art of Life with Dr. Jill Thayer,” a weekly podcast on Voice of Paso Internet radio. Her post-doctoral series, “in Their Own Words: Oral Histories of CGU Art” is included in Archives of American Art at The Smithsonian Institution. Jill’s artwork is included in corporate and private collections internationally.
